Hamilton enters into a long and protracted debate concerning the possibility of finding a single theme that would bring together all the many books that make up the Holy Bible. According to Hamilton, this theme is God's glory in salvation through judgment. In other words, Hamilton argues that a close look at all the texts which make up the Old and New Testaments reveals that the central message is that God reveals His glory by means of saving acts which also bring judgment upon sin. Exodus 34:6-7 holds a significant place within Hamilton's analysis, but other important accounts in Scripture include Adam's exile from Eden and, of course, Jesus sacrificial atonement. Hamilton argues his thesis by means of an inductive study of each book of the Bible that aims to demonstrate how God demonstrates his glory in salvation through judgment.
